An Honest Man With a Bible

When Sir William Ramsay was a boy, his mother taught him many things about the Bible. She would talk about the apostle Paul and all his missionary journeys. Growing up, William loved to hear the stories about the dangerous travels of Paul. But as William grew into a man, many of his college professors taught him that the Bible, especially the book of Acts, was not correct. Because of these teachings, he thought that the book of Acts was wrong.

However, the chance came for William to travel to the lands mentioned in the book of Acts. In his travels, he carried along a Bible just to see how wrong it was. But, to his great surprise, the book of Acts kept getting facts exactly right. Every fact mentioned in Acts that Sir William checked was true. The cities and landmarks that Luke (the man who wrote Acts) mentioned proved to Sir William Ramsay that the Bible was the most accurate history book ever written. In fact, he once said, “The more I have studied the narrative of the Acts, and the more I have learned year after year, . . . the more I admire and the better I understand.”

Sir William Ramsay once said that he “always aimed at the truth, and lived for the truth.” When honest people truly study the Bible, they find the truth. Jesus Himself said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
