How Can I Have Faith in Something I Haven't Seen?
That is a very good question! But let me ask one very similar-have you ever seen love or courage? If you have never seen them, how do you know they exist? You know that love and courage exist because you see the effects of them working. You have seen your parents lovingly take care of you. You have probably seen or heard about people doing courageous things like saving children from burning buildings. There are some things that we cannot see, touch, taste, hear, or smell, but we know they exist.
God is the same way. While we cannot see Him, we know that He exists from the world around us. The Universe is so perfectly made that it had to have a Designer. For example, did you know that the Earth is the exact distance from the Sun for life to be possible? If it were even just 10% closer, it would be too hot to on Earth. And if it were just 10% farther away from the Sun, the Earth would be frozen. So we can know that God exists, even though we cannot see Him, because of the amazing design of the world around us. Like Paul said in Romans 1:20, "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made ...."We have faith that God exists because He has revealed Himself through nature since the beginning of the world. There are other ways to know that God exists, but seeing the design He placed in the Universe is one good way.
